I am a big fan of the columnists at the Lew Rockwell website...they hold points of view that I agree with almost 100%. However, one thing I condemn about the columnists at Lew Rockwell (especially Lew Rockwell, himself) is their snobbery arrogance, (and one reason why I will
never donate to them directly).
This latest blog post by Lew himself, is a prime example:
No More Marches on DC by Lew Rockwell
In it he extols:
"For many years, pro-lifers have expended vast time, energy, and money “marching on Washington” ....
....Such events only dissipate energy, and fool people into thinking that
their time and money have accomplished something, as the regime laughs
up its sleeve. Indeed, that is the purpose. So stay home. Read, write,
work, organize, and avoid DC like the plague it is."
This coming from a man whose lobbying to put "End The Fed" #1 with "book bombs" on Amazon....has at best managed #5....and it has since, slipped. This coming from a man who supported a politician (Ron Paul) who garnered what percent of the republican vote....3%?
What Lew Rockwell is creating is a movement of uber-libertarian elitists snobs who think they are above the fray, and his blog exhibits this. The columnists publish their one-uppins.....so they can earn their atta-boys from their fellow libertarians.
I admit this even though I agree with most of their positions, but not necessarily their methods....and I did support Ron Paul.
Now, onto a broader point. I attended the march on DC. Do I think it will have no affect, like Lew Rockwell, who sits in Auburn pounding on a keyboard?..... Only a dope like Lew Rockwell would deny it has
no effect. It has some effect on those riding on the fence...and it will have an increasing effect as the movement grows. I would guess there was about 200K-500K there. What if there were 2Million to 5 million...or 20Million to 50 million? Would the government then stand up to take notice?
What the "red state fascists", as Rockwell calls them are doing is creating a movement and garnering publicity.....more publicity Rockwell gets on the main stream media. They are stealing pages from Saul Alinsky's playbook, and using his tactics against big government.
I don't agree with the neocons that were there (saw many who want to support the defense of Israel, our 51st state), but one thing a conservative leaning libertarians like me and the neocons I saw can agree and come together on is that government is the problem, not the solution.
Much of the program at DC was spent bashing both parties. It was mostly anti-government. No speeches that I heard were in defense of Israel. Really, that is enough said for now.
